Whilst the boys flit from obsession to obsession, there are a few things which remain stock loves for both, Thomas the Tank is one of them.
We have had a couple of train tracks over the years but the boys jumped at the chance to review this one as it seemed a little bit more “for big boys” than their wooden tracks. The Thomas & Friends Track Master Breakaway Bridge Set is aimed at 3-5 year olds and takes trains on the daring journey across broken track!
The boys were keen to set up the track, and whilst a little fiddly for the 4yo’s to connect, once built it was a lot more sturdy than other tracks which they seem to manage to disconnect with play. The benefit of the Breakaway Bridge Set is that it will also connect to other Track Master sets, creating even more adventure and offering further value for money.
The set comes with a battery-operated Thomas (AAA batteries not included) and we also received Samson so both boys were able to test the durability of this toy. And test it they did!
They had lots of fun, chasing the trains around the track, and they are desperate to join extra track so they can use the railway switch to change tracks to a new adventure.
Even so, it was the tension of the breakaway bridge which caused the most fun, proper “Will he/ Won’t he?” moments, as the giddy excitement of the boys playing filled the room.
All in all, the boys enjoy playing with the track, it feels like a playset for slightly older boys, and they loved this. It is sturdy so there is no cause to think it will break and they are confident in building it and once built it is secure as they play.
As a toy for the home, it is a great addition. The set is available for around £20, which does offer value for money compared to similar pre-school toys, and with the added benefit of adding to other train sets means it has enjoyment beyond the initial set. The boys really enjoy playing with it, and I’m sure if we added an extra train CM would definitely be getting in on the action!
Disclosure: We received the Thomas and Friends Breakaway Train Set and Samson for the purposes of this review. All opinions and views contained are our own.
