There are few electrical devices to get excited about in my world. Of course a Kitchen Aid would have me bouncing off walls. I digress, aside from baking, my one ‘must have’ item is a decent pair of hair straighteners. So of course, the opportunity to review Lee Stafford Academy Hair Straighteners was pounced on, such is my pursuit of straight hair.I have had a relationship with hair straighteners since my teens. I love hair envy- friends with fine hair want thicker locks, those with straight hair want curls, and those with frizz want a sleek finish. And of course I have thick, frizzy hair which can’t cope without hair straighteners.
I’d hate to try the straighteners I had in the early days now, waiting forever for them to heat up, taking ages for them to get through my hair. And by the time I got to work having regressed to the same state.
Over the years I’ve tried so many brands. I became a complete GHD addict, having a pair for work and a pair for home. Buying so many pairs over the years, including a favourite pink pair (for Breast Cancer Care). Whilst they were effective, they didn’t seem to be hard-wearing.
Someone recommended another brand, which I’m currently using. Similar to Lee Stafford’s Straighteners (and unlike the GHD’s) they do reach beyond 200 degrees, but they seem to make a meal of my hair, I feel like I’m sitting there for too long. Unlike the Lee Stafford ones, they’re not digital, and I think my thumb must catch the dial and turn them down.
Receiving the Lee Stafford Academy Hair Straightener was an instant ‘wow’. I’m shallow. I loved the packaging, the magnetic box. I’m easily impressed, but love the rubber cover for the plates. Travelling so much, I’m not sure my straighteners entirely cool down before throwing them back in my case. The cover means the plates are protected, as well as retaining the heat from anything they contact. The plates are nano silver titanium, I wish I knew why this was so good, but even for my non-scientific mind, I think there’s a link with how quickly the straighteners heat up. The temperature of the plates range from 80 -230 degrees celsius, and get there within ten seconds.
The straighteners are perfect for finding a couple of minutes before the school run to make yourself a little more presentable. Always preferable to wasting time waiting for your hair straighteners to get to a heat which makes any impact. And of course there’s the digital display. A little entertaining as you’re watching it creep up to the desired setting – which on my hair has to be as hot as possible. There’s reassurance that you’re getting the heat to create straight hair. It’s also quite useful if you share straighteners. I do straighten CM’s hair from time to time, of course on the lowest temperature, knowing that it’s at the right setting is reassuring. As for the straighteners themselves, they really are fantastic. I looked at my hair afterwards and wondered if anyone would believe the state my hair after washing.
When I leave my hair to dry naturally it’s curly. If I don’t straighten my hair as it reaches dry, it tends to get too dry and has a frizz to accompany the curls.
The Lee Stafford Academy Hair Straightener made short work of my hair. Whilst I tend to run straighteners through a few times, I felt my hair was getting too thin- something I’d never thought I’d say. The straighteners do work first time, the plates seem to glide through more effortlessly than I’ve been used to. As there’s no need to repeat sections of hair you even save some time, always appreciated.
Overall, I was really happy with the look created using the straighteners. My hair looks sleeker than usual and in a quicker time.
