For CM’s 8th birthday we finally decided on a bouldering party. The older children become the more difficult it is to resolve the party. How many to invite? What to do? It seems sometimes it’s not ok to do what has gone before, and others (I can only think of swimming) it is, and to be honest, what mummy’s willing to partake in plays a huge role (there goes the swimming party). With a climbing themed 8th birthday party agreed, there was work to be done.
The birthday party invitations were a success, but they took their toll on my nimble fingers so I decided to ask the fantastic Sweet Treats to create a perfect birthday cake. And of course, it was not only a fantastic cake but it tasted delicious. A win for CM and a win for me.After searching Pinterest, and trying to decide what would best for goody bags, I went with the water bottle idea.
CM always starts and finishes her climbing lessons demanding water, so it seemed like a good choice. That was, until I saw the prices- I searched online but I had talked myself into some form of bag. Until the weekend before the party we popped to Home Bargains and stumbled across these fantastic ones, which of course went in our shopping trolley. We personalised them with luggage tags, paper ribbon, some fantastic miniature carabiner clips, and a little Hobbycraft addition.
Inside the goody cup I tried to carry through the climbing theme with rope and clips. Home Bargains again came to the rescue with marshmallow twirls and some other ‘rope’ looking sweets, which were bagged in some paper bags I bought years ago (for our wedding). I was buying CM some gifts from Smiggle and they had these rope looking erasers on a 5 for £5 deal. They definitely brought colour to the contents. I bought some carabiner clips from ebay, and also found torch clips. I also bought lipbalms for CMs birthday, and the sets were on 3 for 2 at Claire’s Accessories. So ‘Lip Smackers’ also ended up in the goody bags on the basis they were a sort of ‘free’.
I think the goody bags went down well. There were meant to be some rope bracelets too, but the site I ordered them from transpired to be based in China. I really should stick with shopping IRL.
