Holidays as a child were always in the UK, and when we were really little they involved static caravans, my nan, aunties, uncles and cousins. I’ll be honest, a holiday in a caravan wasn’t up there on my list of ideal holidays, but family life does result in compromises, and in this case it was a week at home over the holidays or a trip to Newquay.
A holiday at Parkdean, Newquay was booked as a Sun Holiday and therefore the price definitely made trying a static caravan a good idea. On arrival the hubby described our caravan as ‘horrifyingly clean’, although we think we were the first family to stay in the caravan… I really would be amazed if it wasn’t.
The caravan itself was perfect for us, two bedrooms with a double and two singles, and a sofa-bed in the lounge. I was amazed by how powerful and warm the shower was (I do not function without a shower), and the kitchen was equipped with everything- including a microwave. The holiday park itself seemed good, the outdoor swimming pools (understandably) do not open until May, and we spent the days out and about, the evening entertainment for the little people was perfect and making their lives happy definitely makes over lives easier.
Parkdean, Newquay was the perfect location for exploring, just on the outskirts of Newquay we spent our first day (on the recommendation of The Boy and Me) at Padstow. It was the most perfect day, and complemented by being the best weather of the week, we explored the harbour, the beach, and went back to do some crabbing.
Tintagel is just a bit further up the coast, and I can never resist the opportunity to explore a castle, I probably should have researched this one a bit better as I spent the majority of the time with my heart in my throat, as ruins of this castle meant the most amazing scenery, and a little too much with three little ones.
Our final full day was spent enjoying Crantock, a National Trust maintained beach it was absolutely perfect with sand dunes for the little people to explore. It was the perfect place for everything, and it we had enough foresight a kite would have been the perfect addition.
The holiday has definitely convinced us that static caravans are a great choice for our family, and that we didn’t touch the surface of exploring Newquay or Cornwall. We have a new destination we can’t wait to get to know!
