Our first New Year’s Day in South Wales and friends introduced us to the tradition of clearing the cobwebs at Barry Island.
Tradition adopted this was my non-negotiable for this break, with the hubby juggling hospital visits and getting his mum’s flat ready for her return we have had a difficult time enjoying family togetherness.
And we could not have expected what a great remedy our new year would bring. With the Eastern promenade renovation complete it was fantastic to explore the beach huts and the typographic traversing wall. The little people loved exploring the letters, fossils, vehicles and shapes before the climbing effort began. As always, it is the simple things which create the memories and the favourite activity on the Eastern Promenade was standing by the wall as the waves crashed, enjoying the excitement as the spray caught us and others off guard.
Then it was down to feel the sea proper, to explore the beach, and as always it was straight to the water and enjoying the strength of the sea and the sound of waves around us.To stand back and appreciate how much fun our team now have, that they can be left to create their own adventures, with vivid imaginations, as we get to enjoy the laughter and their excitement. And fortunately for us, unlike all other trips to the sea, this one didn’t result in their clothes getting soaked.
