We’ve started the school holidays by ticking off the children’s must do’s. They’ve climbed trees, played Minecraft, camped out in the garden, and of course ‘done craft’. We sat down on the office floor with an Interplay Fairy Charm Jewellery set from the Craft Box range. And I got to watch what six and eight year-olds could create with elastic, charms, beads and the best imaginations. The set comes with over 300 beads, 12 silver-coloured charms, elastic cord and clasps, as well as an instruction booklet.
The children got stuck in, negotiating over charms, choosing beads and creating their designs.I was only needed to tie the knots at the end of the cord, I was so pleased so how well the boys worked.
At 6 years of age, the boys’ teachers have talked with us about working on the fine motor skills so it watching them adeptly threading the cord into the beads, and at speed really felt like progress is being made. There was lots of focus on creating patterns, and looking at the shapes, colour and sizes of the beads before deciding how they would be threaded into jewellery.
We had lots of fun creating the jewellery. We were a little disappointed that two bracelets snapped as we tried to put them on wrists. I think it’s better to make the bracelets larger so it’s not too much of a stretch to get them on. The boys weren’t particularly upset, as it just gave them the chance to make another design.
And I loved the jewellery they created. Especially because they were so proud of their designs.
The Craft Box set retails at £9.99, which I would consider to offer value for money. There is enough to create at least ten pieces of jewellery. The set would be great for a child as a gift or as an activity for a play date, or like us- a craft afternoon.

April 10, 2017 at 08:06This sounds like a great set to buy for Roo’s next sleepover, all the girls can then make their own bracelet design.
